Questions & Answers

Q: I don't have anyone that can act as a emergency contact, Can i still have an alarm?

A: The simple answer to that is YES, as a company we offer a response service meaning that we can respond to your alarm as an emergency contact to make sure that all is ok and that you are safe. If needed we will contact the emergency services and and stay will you until they arrive, handing you over into their care. We will then contact your next of kin making sure they are aware of what has happened.

You don't need to be a Response Plus client to use this service. If you have an alarm from an another provider we can still act as one of your emergency contacts by putting our details down on your contact list. Please contact our administration team for more information and prices.

Q: How do the alarms work?

A: The alarm is connected to your home landline or a mobile phone sim card (Pre-installed) and when the button on the alarm pendant is pressed the alarm will call the ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre). A qualify and experienced call taker will speak to you through the base box that is connected to your phoneline or GPS alarm pendant. They will ask what help you need and will contact the appropriate nominated contact on your list of contacts calling them one after the other until they get a response. Should they not be able to get hold of someone they will call the emergency services to ensure that help is on it way to you.

Q: Can I have more than one alarm pendant?

A: You can have a number of alarm pendant to one alarm box meaning you only need to have one alarm box in the property. Additional alarm pendants can be ordered order through our administration team in the office and normally take about 72 hours to be received. If your alarm is a GPS one then the alarm and pendant is a all in one unit so you would need one device per person.

Q: Can I use the alarm with my current broadband?

A: Yes, the alarm will work along side your normal broadband connection and will not interfere with it. The alarm is pulled into a splitter to ensure that all equipment pulled into that line works without any problems.

Q: When should I wear my alarm pendant?

A: We recommend wearing your alarm pendant all the time you are in your home, The alarm pendant will not work outside the home as it is connected to your landline. If you have a GPS alarm with a pre installed sim card, this will work anywhere in or out the home. The alarm pendant that is connected to your landline is also waterproof so can be worn in the shower or bath. We work closely with the emergency services and we have found that the main reason for hospital attendances from falls at home is because that client wasn't wearing their pendant and help is often delayed by hours meaning any person that is on the floor for more than four hours who hasn't moved around will be required to go to hospital to be checked.

Q: How can I set up, find out or change my emergency contacts?

A: You will be asked when taking our the service to nominate up to four individuals who will be able to act as emergency contacts for you. These contacts should be someone who wouldn't mind being called out in the middle of the night or in all weathers. They should ideally be someone who lives quite close to yourself, so if you need help you aren't wating to long for it to arrive. You can find out who your emergency contacts are by contact our administration team and if needed you can also change or update them too.

Q: What happens if I can hear the alarm box when I press the pendant button?

A: The call takers are experienced in taking these calls. They will try and shout for you to reply to them but if they don't hear anything they will listen in on the line to hear if they can hear you. If they can't they will contact one of your emergency contacts to come and assist you, if they can't get hold of anyone they will contact the emergency services to carry out a welfare check.
